Join us for the most complete oboe experience in the Midwest!
Join special guest Scott Bell (Pittsburgh Symphony), Lisa Sayre (Reinhardt University), Petrea Warneck (Furman University), Julie Grasso (Double or Nothing Reeds, LLC) and guest host Shawn Reynolds (Youngstown State University) as we lead the week of master classes, lessons and reed making sessions. The 6-day comprehensive oboe camp will focus on the essentials of becoming the complete oboist, with 101 steps to achieving your musical goals!
Oboe 101! will focus on the advanced high school and college student; however qualified pre-high school students are encouraged to apply. Adult amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals will have special sessions addressing their particular areas of interest.
In addition to daily oboe master classes, workshop sessions will cover reed-making, private oboe teaching, music entrepreneurship, PR for the musician, health and well being for the musician (including sessions on Alexander Technique and performance anxiety), composition/arranging, and conducting/coaching groups. Composer Charles Sayre will be available for composition/arranging lessons and other music topics.
The Midwest Oboe Camp is moving to the campus of Youngstown State University at the Dana School of Music. Founded over 140 years ago, it is one of the oldest music schools in the United States and the first public university in Ohio to be designated an All-Steinway School. With its modern conservatory facilities, the school will be a wonderful environment to explore OBOE 101!
YSU is easily accessible from Cleveland, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Flights into Akron-Canton Ohio are the best choice and we will pick up all participants who fly into Akron-Canton Airport.

Lisa Sayre - Lisa has her Bachelor of Music and Masters from Louisiana State University in Oboe Performance. From 1980 - 1983 Lisa studied with Stuart Dunkel at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. She then completed her studies in 1987 at LSU with Earnest Harrison and Dr. Mark Ostoich. Lisa has performed in master classes with John Mack, Evelyn Rothwell, Robert Sprenkle and Elaine Douvas. Further studies include teachers Mark Hill and Robert Sorton. Upon completing her degrees, Lisa became a member of the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight for seven years.
Lisa is a professional oboist and teacher in the metro Atlanta area and currently she is the adjunct professor of oboe at Reinhardt University. She is constantly in demand as an oboist and performs with organizations such as the Atlanta Lyric Theater, The Atlanta Ballet, Carrollton Symphony, Macon Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. She was solo oboist and English hornist on three Billboard charting CDs with the Taliesin Orchestra and performed the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in 2009. In 2004, Lisa toured nationally with the New York City Gilbert and Sullivan Company. She lives in Kennesaw, GA where she maintains a large private studio and works extensively with the outstanding band programs in metro Atlanta. She continues to record new music composed by her husband, Charles Sayre. They are currently working on a new album for oboe, cello and rhythm section.

Petrea Warneck - Oboist Petrea Warneck performs extensively throughout the Carolinas as an chamber musician. She is a member of South Carolina Philharmonic and performs as substitute oboist with the North Carolina, Charlotte, Charleston, Greenville and Spartanburg Symphony Orchestras. She has a distinguished reputation as an oboe instructor in the southeast. Covering the Carolinas from east to west, she has a private studio at home in Columbia and she is the oboe instructor at Furman University and the SC Governor's School for the Arts in Greenville, SC, and Clemson University.
Ms. Warneck is passionately involved in the performance of new music for her instrument. In 2006 she commissioned a work for solo oboe by Mark Kilstofte, entitled "Inner Voices", which she premiered at the International Double Reed Society Conference in 2007. The piece is a tribute to the legendary oboist, John Mack - former principal oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra and Ms. Warneck's mentor of over 25 years. She credits his influence and teaching pedagogy for her continual development as a musician and educator throughout her career.
Ms. Warneck obtained a Master's degree from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor's degree from the Ithaca College School of Music. In addition to post-graduate training with John Mack, mentors Elaine Douvas and Mark Ostoich have had a profound influence on the development of Ms. Warneck's unique teaching style and pedagogy. Ms. Warneck presents Master Classes and Reed-making Workshops from coast to coast - including the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, the University of Alabama, the University of Louisville, Music For All Festival in Indianapolis, and at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati (CCM), where she is a regular Guest Lecturer. She is a member of the artist faculty of the Furman Band Camp, Oxford Oboe Camp in Georgia, and the Midwest Oboe Camp in Ohio.
Dedicated to the health and wellness of performing artists, Ms. Warneck is a devoted advocate of the importance of the Mind-Body connection. She is a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique through Alexander Technique International, and is working towards licensure as an Andover Educator Instructor of Body Mapping.
Ms. Warneck plays on the Yamaha Custom Oboe 841 and is a Yamaha Performing Artist through Yamaha Corporation of America.

Charles Sayre - An American Classic Composer. He received his formal education from Youngstown State University and Berklee School of Music. He studied privately with composer Orlando Vitello. Currently he is adjunct professor of composition at Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA.
Music career began as trombonist and arranger for the Airmen of Note, the official jazz ensemble of the USAF Band. Later his role became specific to compositions and arranging for all components of the USAF Band. Fifty years later Charles is still called on to create special works for this organization.
